Light
Light Absorption, Reflection, and Refraction
REFLECTION AND REFRACTION
Reflection happens when light bounces off an object instead of being soaked up.
Refraction happens when light bends as it passes from one material to another.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN LIGHT SHINES ON A MATERIAL?
Transparent materials let light pass through them.
- clear glass, overhead transparency, water
- waxed paper, stained glass, plastic bottle
- wood, carpet, book
HOW DOES LIGHT TRAVEL?
Light travels in straight lines unless it meets something that makes it change direction.
Light travels in straight lines unless it meets something that makes it change direction.
Things that emit light are light sources. Most things do not emit light but we see them because they reflect light.
TYPES OF LIGHT SOURCES
There are two types of light sources in the world around us:
Natural Light comes from nature
(sun, fire, fireflies...)
Artificial Light is man made
(light bulb, flashlight, television...)
